Submitted by FromAtoB on Tue, 02/21/2012 - 15:00.

Hi,

We're in El Tunco at the moment. Planning on going to Suchitoto tomorrow and then heading East. We're planning on doing Honduras in 1 day and skipping straight to Nicaragua though.

Might catch you sometime soon.

#2 Nice

Submitted by mmcelv on Tue, 02/21/2012 - 17:56.

Ah yes, I was there for a few days about a week ago, very nice....bummer we couldn't have hooked up earlier!

I will probably be here for a bit longer though, maybe will head to Honduras Sunday....what time are you going to suchituto tomorow? That is actually a place I've been meaning to get to though...

Absolutely! If we don't meet up now, we should stay in tough as we will be pretty close on the route. I'm also debating whether to really stay an amount of time in Honduras or just keep trucking on to Nicarauga instead....

Have a good one!

#3 We're having one more day in

Submitted by FromAtoB on Wed, 02/22/2012 - 09:19.

We're having one more day in El Tunco - need to sort something at home via internet.

We'll leave for Suchitoto first thing tomorrow (Thursday).

The border on Sunday  sounds like a good idea - less people.

Agree about staying in touch. Our blog is www.fromatob.org which has a comments system.

#4 Tomorrow

Submitted by mmcelv on Wed, 02/22/2012 - 12:34.

So you are leaving for Suchituto tomorrow and then heading for the border the same day?  I'm almost thinking of heading out as well, would be much nicer to caravan.  Its tough because I wanted to stay for the weekend, but maybe it would be better.

I checked out the blog, very cool!!

#5 We'll spend at least 1 night

Submitted by FromAtoB on Wed, 02/22/2012 - 15:00.

We'll spend at least 1 night there. Wouldn't plan on the border for at least another couple of days after. We're in no particular rush.

We're planning to stay down by the lake at the Balaneiro down there - we've heard other people have had luck staying down there.

If you guys are up for company, let me know and I'll follow you up.  I would just check it out and return in the afternoon then come back in the late afternoon?

#8 How was Suchitoto?

Submitted by mmcelv on Fri, 02/24/2012 - 20:11.

Ah, no worries, I know how that is!

Was Suchitoto tough to find?  You recommend the visit?  My GPS is just basic, I heard it can be a little tricky on the way there..

Nice, I think I am going to need to stay an extra couple days in the week to further test my thermostat, just replaced it and had some terrible overheating problems recently, so just want to make sure 100% that it is not going to act up on me....it was not fun at all!!   Hopefully its not too terrible during the week, as I know Sunday really is the best time.

We're so close though, for sure we should try and meet up some point along the way!  Glad you guys are having a great time!!

#9 Sorry we missed

Submitted by FromAtoB on Sun, 02/26/2012 - 13:33.

Sorry we missed you.

Suchitoto was well signposted from the Panam. Really easy to find. Not sure what the fuss it about though. Just seemed like a bog standard little town which was pleasant enough to walk around. The tours on the lake seemed really expensive at $20 per person so we skipped that.

We crossed into Honduras today and amatillo was really quiet. We were across in around 2 hours. We used a tramatidor who tried to cheat us a couple of times but he didn't get anywhere.

Less than 30kms into Honduras we were stopped by some cops who told us we had a $100 ticket. We refused to pay and they gave up in the end.

We'll head into Nicaragua first thing tomorrow so maybe see you there.

#10 Wow, thats so odd, I didn't

Submitted by mmcelv on Sun, 03/04/2012 - 17:26.

Wow, thats so odd, I didn't get an email that you responded!  I just logged in to post a question, and there it was!

Ah, well maybe I won't worry about Suchituto then.  As it is, I'm still here, ran into further problems with my a/c, need the tubes replaced, but my car permit runs out Thursday.  So I would really like to extend/renew but not sure I can.  So just trying to figure that one out.

I have a feeling I will be using one of the tramatidors at the border as well, as I've heard its a confusing one.  For 10 bucks or so to save a few hours, its probably worth it

Thats good to hear that you got out of the ticket, I will keep that in mind when I'm going through and just keep resisiting.  What was it for, something made up?  Did you just play the no Spanish as well?  Or just simply refused?

Yea, I think I'm going to be abit behind now, but perhaps still downt he road if you stay anywhere for a bit we'll catch up again.  I really don't think I will spend time in Honduras, it just doesn't seem worth it, unless I try and drive in and out to get my import permit renewed here.

Thanks for the previous response!  And gald to hear everything is going good!
