Driving from Naples, Florida through Central America, all the way to Panama beginning in late July. I plan on spending about 6 months in total traveling through the region. I couldn't find anyone able or willing to go along with me, so I'm heading out on my own.

Do it. Don't be afraid and don't make your plans contingent upon the willingness of others to participate or facilitate your travel.

We are driving with the whole family (Mom, Dad, 17 yr old, 16 yr old, 10 yr old, 10 yr old.  Driving from Salt Lake City Utah to Panama and back in 40 days.

Starting our journey in the fall of 2017, driving "The Honeymooner" our 1976 Chinook camper from our home in Seward, AK down to the lower 48. We will then ship our girl off to Colombia where we will start the adventure through South America.

Not yet.. except maybe: plan ahead so you can enjoy the "voorpret" - roughly translated as "anticipatory pleasure" ;-)

Having driven solo round South America I am now sorting a trip with partner Nell setting off from Vitoria, Brazil late 2017 for Santiago Chile via Anchorage.

All advice on container and passage South America to/from Panama gratefully received.

Anyone any idea how to insure a Fiesta for the USA and Canada?

It is a piece of cake if you avoid puddles, rain and unmade roads. If you travel with American plates the starting point for the Multa is many times higher - White, Wealthy and American - you are Santa Claus. The older the vehicle the more comprehensive needs to be your tool kit.
