Do you have any advice for others who may be considering driving the Americas?: 
Don't just consider it. Do it. Roadtrips are character building experiences and you see so much more than what you would doing it any other way. Chile is just the beginning for us. We can't wait to run our own conversion and journey through the entire Pan-American highway.

Keep your route flexible, do your research and be prepared, be friendly and respectful, an open smile can go a long way.

My road trip history:

I drove from Connecticut to Alaska alone during 3 months: ct2ak.blogstpot.com

I drove from California to Connecticut with my sister during 1 month.

I drove to from Connecticut to Florida to pick up my then fiancee, and did a road trip back to CT during about one month, then we drove to Canada, and then out west to our new home in Kansas.

Now...we plan to drive ALL of south america with my parents...

Do you have any advice for others who may be considering driving the Americas?: 
I am looking for advice, I have only crossed USA to Canada as a US citizen and that is too easy.

Winnebago Travato 59G - Built on the Dodge Promaster 3500

Purchase in Winnebago Travato in April of 2016 and will be driving toward the Darien Gap in early 2019.  Retired technology and US Federal Government people :-)

Do you have any advice for others who may be considering driving the Americas?: 
We found in useful to spent a couple of week vacationing in several location renting cars to gain familiarity with local driving conditions, etc.

motorcycle - 2004 Yamaha V Star 650

I started riding my Yamaha V Star 650 from Florida, USA in January 2017 and plan on heading to Punta Arenas! Have seen the deserts of Mexico, volancoes of Guatemala and Nicaragua, the blue waters of Carribean and the incredible vistas of the Andes.

Do you have any advice for others who may be considering driving the Americas?: 
Dont't overthink it, save the money, and jump right in. Will there be problems along the way, of course. Is it good to plan ahead, of course. But don't get so bogged down by the details you never make the plunge.
