Reason for taking this trip
We four are disciples of Mother Rytasha and followers of The Religion of Love. This unifying message of The Religion of Love is focusing on the heart and essential core of religion, breaking down the false barriers of customs and culture which divide us from one another. Just as we have mercifully received the message of The Religion of Love from our spiritual master Mother Rytasha, we also want to share it with the whole world. A few years back we were invited to come to Mexico City to distribute The Religion of Love books, and since then, there are now more disciples and followers of The Religion of Love, spiritual programs at the University and gatherings at local cultural centers. About 2 years ago, we had the desire to travel all throughout the Americas, distributing The Religion of Love books to the mass of people. We decided the best way to do this would be to drive a bus that could carry thousands of books and that we could also live in, cutting our expenses down as much as possible.
Why did you decide to drive?
We decided to drive because it is most cost effective. Plane tickets can get real expensive, plus, everywhere we go we will have a place to stay because we are living in our bus “center on wheels.”
What type of car are you driving?
2003 Ford E450 – Old OCTA Bus. (City Bus)
Did you make any modifications to your car for this trip?
Did we???? We took out most of the seats and wheel chair lift. We built cabinets to store our clothes, a bathroom with a shower used with a manual foot pump (to avoid the need of an auxiliary battery) and also a portable toilet for emergencies. We covered the whole floor with 4 inch memory foam for our bedding and brought a bunch of pillows from India. The inside is kind of like our own little yoga center. We put steel grating on all of our windows to avoid break-ins while we are out and away from the bus, along with a removable steel covering for our driver window. We also built a roof rack to hold all of The Religion of Love books we’ll be distributing along with the children program supplies for our children plays that we perform at local schools and orphanages. Let’s see…..anything else?
How did you save up or finance your trip?
We saved up the whole year working in schools as teacher aids with special needs children, as weekend clowns and super heroes for birthday parties, teaching English, just about anything we could do to make money for this trip.
How long do you plan on traveling?
At Least 3 to 4 years, depending on who we meet and how things are going in each country. We plan to spend at least 1 to 2 months in each country.
Where do you plan on driving?
All over the Americas!
What were your family’s and friends’ reactions when you told them about your trip before you left?
There were mixed reactions. Some of encouragement, “Right on. Wish we could come with you.” Or, “You guys are doing such a wonderful service.” Others were, “are you guys crazy!!? You want to get yourselves killed!!!??” But for the most part, friends and family are inspired.
Did you speak Spanish before you left your home country? How much Spanish? Are you taking more Spanish lessons as you travel? If so, where and for how long?
Antonio is Mexican and has lived in Mexico all his life, so his Spanish is okay…….Jeremy, Hassan, and Timothy all have picked up some Spanish along their travels.
Do you have any advice for others who may be considering driving the Americas?
Travel with a purpose.
Do you have a blog or a website describing your trip? If so, what is its address?
