We are selling our vehicle and rooftop tent either together or separately, as we’ll be heading back home by the end of July :(. The truck is Ontario plated and we shipped it down from Baltimore to Santiago to start off our trip. Since then, we’ve driven down to Patagonia, across into Argentina, up through Uruguay and Brazil, and we just crossed the continent through Bolivia and are now in Peru! The cheapest flights to Toronto seem to be from Lima, so we’ll head back there to finish off our trip. Here are the details:
We are an American couple, we drove our Ford E450 Diesel minibus with offroad tires and California plates throughout Baja, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nica, Costa, and Panama for 1 full year in June. We have to get back home and are planning on selling this month (May). It is the most perfect, beautiful home you will ever see with a full kitchen, big bed, solar panels, wood floors and plenty of storage. Plus the engine is working great, well maintained and super strong! We've never had problems aside from a tire blow out on a gnarly road in Baja, MX.
Rooftents are a very comfortable way of camping, having your tent set up in 5 minutes, comfortable matrass included without inflating. They are quite rare in south america.
Unfortunately we find ourselves stranded with our car having some engine problems in Temuco. As we are trying to sell that car (see our other advertisement), we are willing to sell the rooftent apart from the car as well. It attaches quite easily on any rigid roofrack/imperial with crossbars.
We our now travelling in our beloved and characteristic 2000 Hyundai Galloper. When we return in Santiago de Chile at the end of February she'll have done around 260.000 kilometers. She drinks normal gasoline and is an awesome car. With a roof-tent that will convert into a comfortable 2-person tent with matrass and covers within 5 minutes (no, really!)
For our roadtrip through South-America we are now looking for 2nd hand or cheap outdoor gear in Santiago, Chile. Does anyone has a tent or a mattress for sale? Or other gear that you night need for backpacking? You can send me a message: [email protected]. Thanks!
My name is Jakob Soderberg, from Holland. I travel through South America on a BMW motorcycle and with a tent. I appreciate your initiative to provide info to fellow travellers. I spent a few days in Bosque de Paz / Parque Bambú
On my way South, from Colombia to Quito, I adventured off the main road (about 20 km before Ibarra, in a junction called Salinas) towards the coast of Esmeraldas.
A first class asphalted road, set in a beautiful landscape, brings you to the village of El Limonal, where Bosque de Paz / Parque Bambú is located.
