South America route planning

Hi all,

I'm hoping to get some advice on our trip. We are a family of four (kids 7 and 9) travelling for a year. The part we need help with is 4 months in South America. We arrive in Santiago, Chile in the end of August and plan on buying a vehicle to live out of until we leave from Santiago again in mid December. The only set item on our itinerary is to meet family in Bariloche in the end of November. We don't want to travel too fast. Plan on spending about half our time living out of the rig and the other half renting houses. We surf so bonus points for routes that spend a lot of time on the coast

Would love advice on general route ideas. The biggest question I have is that I'm not sure how much ground we should plan to cover.

My preliminary idea is a big clockwise loop. Santiago-> north to Antofagasta, over to Cordoba Argentina, to Buenos Aires, out to Uruguay, back through BA and accross Argentina to Bariloche, over to Chile and up to Santiago. Google maps has this at 80 hrs but I have no idea how accurate that is. Anyone done this route?

Any thoughts are much appreciated!

Hello!

Want to say that you are very courageous when traveling with your children, because it's not so easy. My daughter can not sit for two hours on a plane, not talking about traveling by bus or car at all. Don't imagine when we will have some time and opportunity to drive to another country. Hope that everything during your trip will be ok. Best regards, ultius expert.
